A terrorist was killed and a junior commissioned officer (JCO) injured during an encounter in the Guddar forest of Kulgam district on Monday, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed.

The operation was launched early in the morning following specific intelligence input from Jammu and Kashmir Police. A joint team of the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF carried out the search in the forested area.

According to the Army, the exchange of fire began when vigilant troops noticed suspicious movement. “Upon being challenged, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce gunfight. In the exchange, one terrorist was eliminated and a JCO sustained injuries. The operation is ongoing,” the Chinar Corps posted on X.

The Kashmir Zonal Police also confirmed that the encounter began on the basis of intelligence inputs and that security forces remain on the ground to flush out any remaining militants.
